Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding programmes in some of the world’s poorest communities, where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education.
It’s a simple idea that works. We provide one daily meal in a place of learning in order to attract chronically hungry children into the classroom, where they receive a vital education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty.
As a result of funds raised from the Artemis Great Kindrochit Quadrathalon more than £266,000 has been raised, feeding over 12,000 children every day in their place of learning.
Today, we are reaching over 920,000 children with a nutritious daily meal in places of learning across five continents.
The average worldwide cost for us to feed a child for a whole school year is just £12.20. Wherever possible, Mary’s Meals uses locally grown food to support the local economy and engages local community volunteers to prepare and serve the meals.
We work hard to keep our running costs low and to ensure that at least 93p of every £1 donated to us is spent directly on our charitable work. This is only possible because most of our work is done by an army of volunteers.
